The ABC’s of Kindergarten

Arrival-Arrivals, as well as dismissals, are a very organized process at TCE.  The children start learning the routine from the first day they start kindergarten.  Therefore, it is extremely important that you let your child come to school and go home the way they will be going all year.  We know how hard it is to put your little one on a bus (we’ve been there). However, it is much harder for the child if you start out one way and switch a few weeks into school.  Please arrive at school on time.  School begins at 8:25. If your child arrives after 8:25 he/she is tardy and will have to be checked in at the front office before coming to class.  The school doors will open at 8:05.  If your child arrives at school after 8:05 but before 8:25 he/she will report to their designated spot.

Attendance-Please have your child attend school each day unless he/she is sick.  Children should be kept home if they have a fever, diarrhea or have been vomiting in the last 24 hours.  If your child is absent, please call the school to let us know.  Upon returning to school, please send a note explaining the reason for your child’s absence.

Birthdays-We enjoy celebrating birthdays; however, we will celebrate with a “BIRTHDAY in a BAG” for only the birthday child.  More information will be sent home at the time of your child’s birthday.

Book Orders- Every month we will send home a Scholastic Book Club Catalog for you and your child to look over. These clubs offer wonderful books at reduced prices—what a great way to build your home library! If you choose to order, please make the check payable to Scholastic Books.

Communication is an essential part of a successful year for your child.  We will be corresponding with you in many ways throughout the year.  These include newsletters, your child’s daily folder, email and telephone calls.

Conferences-Having a conference with you is very important to us, but to serve you and your child better, we ask that you make an appointment.  Our school has designated conference days scheduled during each of the 4 nine weeks.  We are also available to meet at other times in the year as needed.

Class Events- Please understand, younger siblings are not allowed in the classroom during school hours

Daily Responsibility Folder- Each child will have a daily responsibility folder. Your child needs to bring his/her folder to school EVERY day. This lets us know that you have seen your child’s folder for that day.

Dismissal-Dismissal, like arrivals, is a very organized process.  We want you to know that we highly encourage letting your child ride the bus home beginning the first day of school.  We color code all our buses and place colored tags on your child’s backpack to match the bus he/she will ride.  All children are escorted to their bus by a teacher at the beginning of the year.  If your child has a change in the way he/she goes home you will need to notify us in writing.  Early dismissals are handled through the front office.

E Early Dismissal Wednesdays-every Wednesday school dismisses at 1:45 pm.

Field Trips- We will be planning two curriculum based field trips for this year.  You will have the opportunity to volunteer as a chaperone, but you must visit and be approved by the county prior to chaperoning.  Younger siblings are not allowed to join us on field trips.  Permission slips will be sent home prior to each field trip and must be signed and returned with the proper fees.
