What LEARNING and GROWING went on in room 217 this week:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Academics<\/strong><\/p>\n

ELA:\u00a0 We began reading Horrible Harry and the Goog by <\/em>Suzy Kline.\u00a0 This is story about a mischievous boy and his escaped cat exploring Southside School and literally has us laughing out loud!\u00a0 Our novel study is quickly becoming the most favorite part of our school day.\u00a0 Our reading block also focused on sorting and recognizing long o words as well as describing connections between historical events.<\/p>\n

Writing:\u00a0 Students wrote \u201cIt happened to Me\u201d narratives incorporating onomatopoeia.<\/p>\n

Math:\u00a0 Numbers to 1,000 were tackled the week \u2013 students were challenged with their number sense through word problems, higher order thinking questions, and independent work revolving around larger numbers.<\/p>\n

Science: We discussed Earth Science and Earth\u2019s Structures. Students recognized that the Earth is made of of rocks and that rocks come in many sizes and shapes.\u00a0 They also described how small pieces of rock and dead plant and animal parts can be the basis of soil and explained the process by which soil is formed.<\/p>\n

Social Studies:\u00a0 Students studied the world in spatial terms as well as breaking down “Me on a Map”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
