How is it already so close to the end of October?\u00a0 We had a VERY busy and productive week!<\/p>\n

On Monday we had the Jaguars visit for a pep rally.\u00a0 The cheerleaders and coaches gave great speeches on STAMINA and PERSEVERANCE as well overcoming adversity after Hurricane Matthew.\u00a0 We also heard from representatives from the Red Cross and City Commissioners.<\/p>\n

Tuesday was our field trip to Rype and Readi.\u00a0 This was a GREAT, kid-friendly environment that helped our students learn more about farming!\u00a0 We had three rotations: feeding the animals, visiting the market, and touring crops the farm was producing to learn more about agriculture.\u00a0 The students also got to taste test of some products grown at the farm such as muscadine grapes and sugar cane.\u00a0 We ended the trip with a picnic outside and each child receiving a mini pumpkin to take home.\u00a0 Even through the sun-showers and mosquitoes, everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves and learned something new.\u00a0 You can check out their website here: \u00a0\u00a0 http:\/\/rypeandreadi.com\/<\/a><\/p>\n

On Friday students who met their goal for this quarters AR incentive enjoyed extra recess and a snow cone!\u00a0 Congratulations to Caenan McCarthy who was our top point earner for the class AND 2nd grade with over 100 points!\u00a0 WOW!<\/p>\n

Academics<\/strong><\/p>\n

ELA:\u00a0 Students began our current class novel Esio Tro<\/span>t by the INCREDIBLE Roald Dahl.\u00a0 Class novels have helped students build fluency and inflection in their reading.\u00a0 Our reading block also reviewed base words, reviewed adding and sorting -ed to words, and focused on reading realistic fiction. \u00a0 Lastly, we took our lesson 6 Wordly Wise vocab.<\/p>\n

Writing:\u00a0 We added descriptive writing to characters of our choice in our journals this week as well introducing Authors Chair.\u00a0 Belle was our first speaker and did a superb job describing Alexander from Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Da<\/em>y.<\/p>\n

Math:\u00a0 We continued to practice 2-digit addition with re-grouping.\u00a0 Students also practiced reading word problems that required 2-digit addition and the importance of lining up our tens and ones vertically.<\/p>\n

Science:\u00a0 Rocks were discussed and we observed different rocks around school.\u00a0 We read great books such as Rocks: hard, soft, smooth, and rough<\/em> and If you Find a Rock.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If they cannot wear their costume over their school clothes, they are to bring a change of clothes with them. We also remind students that face-painting, hair-coloring or weapons (real or play) are not allowed.<\/span><\/p>\n
