Academics
ELA: Class Novel: Stink and the Midnight Zombie Walk by Megan McDonald; determining CENTRAL message, lesson, or moral in folktales, vowel-sound SORTS
Writing: Read Harry and the Terrible Whatzit by Dick Gackenbach, and The Little Old Lady Who was Not Afraid of Anything by Linda Williams – students created their own “scary” stories using the writing process.
Math: Addition and subtraction strategies
Social Studies: REVIEW
Science: Distinguish human body parts (brain, heart, lungs, stomach, muscles, and skeleton) and their basic functions while creating skeletons and reading Dem Bones by Bob Barner

Important Dates:
- 10/9: gifted screener – if you don’t wanted your child tested, please sign and return the opt-out letter sent home. If your child has already been tested and qualified, they will not be tested and will be sent to another room. 🙂
- 10/12: 1st quarter ends
- 10/15: No school – teacher planning day
- 10/18: OPEN HOUSE 5:00-7:00! Be there or be square! Your child is PUMPED to show off their work and classroom!
- 10/23: School House Rock field trip forms and money due
- 10/26: Parade of characters – 8:45 am – meet us at the bus loop! Students come dressed to school as a book character (please bring the book the character is from!) Students may change into regular clothes immediately following the parade if they are uncomfortable.
- 10/26: Fall Festival – 5:30-7:30
- 10/31: Send in Halloween snacks
- 11/1: Class book fair visit
- 11/5: Picture re-takes
- 11/6: Field trip to Amphitheater to see Schoolhouse Rocks!
Reminders:
- Email our homeroom parent Mrs. Charalambous to sign up for a time slot for our Fall Festival booth or contribute to supplies! Thanks for making this a fun day for our kiddo’s!
- Please send in boxtops! They are due 10/17! I am the reigning school champ and don’t want to lose my trophy!
- Students have been VERY eager to work on Study Island at home – access to the link is here: https://app.studyisland.com/cfw/login/ Their username and password should be memorized. If not, email me and I will give it to you!
- Don’t forget to send in field trip forms to the amphitheater!
