Happy Friday!

Reminders: Please send in a snack and water bottle with your students. Tonight is Family Movie Night at Hartley. Frozen 2 will be shown and there will be free popcorn, glow sticks, hot chocolate, and photos with Elsa. Be sure to bring lawn chairs!

AR Reward: Students need to earn a total of 36 AR points by March 11th to go to the movie and popcorn reward at the end of the quarter.

 2020 SAC Needs Assessment Survey:  The 2019-2020 Hartley SAC PARENT Needs Assessment Survey closes next week! Field Day: Field day will be Tuesday March 10th from 9-11:30. Please send students with water bottles that day as there will not be any cups for students to fill. Parents interested in coming to field day may come as long as they are approved volunteers.  If you would like to send in a cool treat for the class to enjoy after field day, you are more than welcome to.

Teacher Planning day 3/13: There is no school for students on Friday, March 13th.  Students get a head start on their Spring Break!

Hidden Figures: I would like the class to watch the film, Hidden Figures, to celebrate Black History Month and Women’s History Month.  Permission slips are in your student’s Hawk Folder and are due this Thursday.

Goodwill Bag it Up! Donation Drive: Make Preparations for the Goodwill “Bag It Up! Donation Drive” on Wednesday, March 4. Hartley is excited to partner with Goodwill for the Bag It Up! Donation Drive!  Parents are asked to look through closets for good used clothing and bring it to school from 8-8:30 a.m. on March 4th.  Students who donate will receive a Good Citizen Award and coupons from the Alligator Farm, the Jacksonville Zoo and Adventure Landing. If our school reaches 60% participation, we will receive $2,000 we can use for student activities. Thank you for planning to participate in the upcoming Bag It Up! Drive!

Weekly Update 2/7

Happy Friday!

Reminders: Please send in a snack and water bottle with your students.  Interim reports were sent home yesterday along with XtraMath logins.  Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

PTO Winter Dance: Hartley’s annual Winter Dance is tonight from 7 PM to 9 PM. There will be an entrance fee of $1. Any profits made from the raffle and entrance fee will go back to teachers/classrooms.

AR Reward: Students need to earn a total of 36 AR points by March 10th to go to the movie and popcorn reward at the end of the quarter.

Valentine’s Day: A class list of names was sent home this week.  I will not be here next Friday, so our class will celebrate Valentine’s Day Thursday February 13th so that I can celebrate with them.  Feel free to send in any boxes, bags, treats, and goodies.

Candy Grams: The Hartley Student Council will be selling Candy-Grams in the morning on Monday, February 10th-February 14th on the stage in the cafeteria. You can fill out a Candy-Gram for $1.00. Send to a friend, teacher, a staff member, or even your brother or sister for Valentine’s Day!

Continents & Oceans: We are studying the 7 continents and 5 oceans. This week we focused on the continents and next week we will focus on the oceans.   If you have spare time over the next week, review the map with your child. Here are some resources to aid you as your support your student

Celebrate Literacy Week: It’s Celebrate Literacy Week! Take a look at the daily themes for that week so that you child can participate:

Monday: Jan 27th: Get cozy with a book. Wear your favorite sweats and curl up with a good book.

Tuesday: Jan 28th_Dress as a tourist or a person from another country, on a travel adventure.

Wednesday: Jan 29th In class Writing Activity: Write about an adventure you have been on or you would like to go on. Describe the place you visited, what it looked like and what you did there… Or  What it would look like and what you would do if you went on this adventure.

Thursday: Jan 30th- Book Character Day: dress like a character from a book!

Weekly Update 12/6

Happy Friday!

Book Fair: Hartley’s annual Book Fair begins Monday 12/9 and runs until Friday 12/13.  It will also be open Thursday night, December 12th from 6:00-8:00 during the Music Makers/Kindergarten special programs.  Each day our class will have a 15 minute slot when students that have money to purchase items from the book fair.  Students previewed the book fair today and have a wish list in their Hawk Folders

Money: Students have been hard counting coins & bills and solving word problems involving money. I encourage you to take advantage of these resources this weekend to sharpen your child’s money skills.

Time Test: There are 3 “tests” stapled together in your student’s folder.  The last test is the pretest. The test in the middle is the mock test. The test on top is the actual test.  On the actual test, students only needed to do problems they got wrong on the mock test.  I added points back and that gives them their final score. Please let me know if there is any confusion with your child’s score.

Circus Café: Our class will become a restaurant with front office staff and custodians being our customers on Tuesday, December 17th.  Staff members will receive play dollar bills and the students will take their orders, bring their food, and calculate their bill in order to make change.  I am looking for donations of homemade or store bought dishes.  We need a few entrees, sides, desserts and drinks that could feed 15 people. If you are willing and able to bring in a food item, please fill out the information below.  Please return the slip by Tuesday, December 10th so I can send confirmation home on Wednesday, December 11th.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Weekly Update 11/22

Happy Friday!

Canned Food Drive: Student Council’s Food Drive started this week! We are collecting canned and dry food for local families in need until November 26th.

Telling Time: Students have been hard at work telling time on analog clocks to the nearest 5 minutes. I encourage you to take advantage of these resources this weekend to sharpen your child’s time skills. I have also sent home extra practice with your students.

Thanksgiving Break: School is only in session on Monday and Tuesday of next week. Students will have Wednesday-Friday off for Thanksgiving Break. If your student will not be here Monday or Tuesday, please let me know.
