Well, we’ve arrived at the exciting season of activities at R.B. Hunt! This week we have the Parade of Characters on Friday morning and the Fall Festival on Friday night. For those new to R.B. Hunt, the Parade of Characters is a day when students are able to dress up as their favorite book character for a parade around the bus turnaround. Students should arrive in costume with a change of clothes underneath. We have some spots open for nail painting on Friday evening. If you can help, please contact me or one of our terrific homeroom parents and let them know. Also on Friday, we have our Spooky Feast and Read Aloud. Thank you for considering healthy snacks and for keeping them nut-free. You are terrific! It’s not too late to let me know if you’ll come and read aloud to the kids while they snack. I can have some books on hand to choose from if needed. Just let me know in advance.
Here’s what we’re doing in class this week:
Science: We have kicked off our study of natural resources including both renewable and nonrenewable.
Math: We are wrapping up our study of multiplication. I’m very pleased with the kids’ commitment to learning their math facts and doing their best with this important skill in fourth grade. We will have our multiplication test on Tuesday and will then move into division later this week.
Reading: Our book clubs are going really well! The students are enjoying their books and are engaging well together in discussions and club-related work. I know many of the students have chosen to use their book club book for their first book report (due November 7) and are working as much as they can to prepare in advance as they use their book report planning sheet. Our book clubs will end this Friday. Students will be able to take their AR quizzes on their books when they are finished with the reading. We are working on Summarizing Informational Texts and we are also reading about Christian the Lion in our StoryWorks magazine. You may want to share the famous YouTube video of Christian and his owners as they reunite to make a connection to the story. Beware: it’s a tearjerker!
Social Studies: Students have been working in study groups to help prepare for their chapter 1 test. I have that scheduled for Wednesday. We’ll do a review game in class to add to the studying fun.
Thank you for all your help with everything this year.
