Welcome to Second Grade!!!
Welcome to a new year at Valley Ridge Academy. I’m very excited to be your child’s teacher, and I look forward to a fun and productive year. Listed below are some procedures and informational items that are very important. Please read them carefully.
Your child will be given a folder to take home daily. This folder is a way of communicating to you what has gone on during the day here at school. If you have any notes, lunch money, etc., please send them to school in this folder. It will be your child’s responsibility each morning to check and manage the folder. Each evening, I ask that you please check the folder and empty, sign/fill out, and return any necessary items as soon as possible. This home/school communication folder will also be used to send home daily class work as well as assignments or projects that are to be completed at home.
My behavior management plan is based on a clip chart. Each day your child will start off on “Ready to Set Sail”. The clip can move up for positive behaviors and down for negative behaviors. If the clip is moved to the bottom level you will be contacted by me and a conference regarding behavior will be requested. It is very important for us to be on the same page when it comes to your child and their choices. I truly appreciate all your support when it comes to promoting appropriate behavior!
Please do not allow your child to bring toys or unnecessary items to school. I cannot be responsible for lost or broken toys. Playground balls, jump ropes, etc., will be permitted. Please label them with your child’s name. Items brought in are the responsibility of your child.
You must send a note or call the office if you are planning on having your child go home any way other than what is stated as their normal dismissal. A note is also required when your child rides a different bus. Please include a telephone number where you can be reached so that we can verify the transportation change with you. YOU CAN NOT EMAIL TRANSPORTATION CHANGES.
Please send a note when your child is absent from school. This lets us know if the absence is excused or not. Any absence without a note will be counted as unexcused.
I would love for any parents to come and volunteer in the classroom. In order to help, you MUST be cleared by a district background check. Forms are located in the office or can be found on the SJCSD website. Whether you would like to read with children, do an art project, or even help with odd jobs I would love to see you involved. If you have crafts or activities you would like to do with the children, I would love to hear about them! I do ask that there are no parents in the classroom until after open house, as we are trying to get the children acclimated to our new schedule and classroom rules.
Visiting the School
When visitors come to our school, they must sign in at the front office and receive a visitor’s badge. No Exceptions!!! We want our school to be a safe place. Also, please refrain from making any unexpected visits to our classroom during the day as it can be a huge disruption. If there is anything you need to bring during the day, please leave it with the office and your child can come pick it up.
This is a special time for your children and I recognize each birthday. If you would like to send in a healthy snack (chex-mix, dry cereal, juice boxes, pretzels, etc.) to share on your child’s special day, you may do so. A list will be going out in the near future with a list of specific allergies we have this year in our classroom. When sending in a snack of any kind, please be sensitive to any special needs. It must be store bought.
Lunch and Snack
Our scheduled lunch time is 10:54- 11:24 pm. Student lunch prices are $2.70. Parents are given the opportunity to prepay for student meals online through PayPAMS. You can set up your child’s account on PayPAMS.com. Due to lunch being in the middle of our day, I will give the children time to eat a snack at some point in the afternoon. Please send your child with something healthy. Also know that due to allergies and recent health concerns there will be no sharing of snacks. I do encourage kids to bring water bottles to keep on their desks. Water bottles that sweat minimally and have a sip top are preferred. Please do not send anything other than water for your child to drink during the day. Drinks containing sugar will have to be consumed in the cafeteria during lunch. If you have any questions, please contact the office.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you might have. I can be reached over the phone or via email: [email protected]
Email is the best way to reach me and fastest way to get a response! Let’s work together to make this the best year ever!
