Start With Kindess Week September 23-27: This year, I am focusing on creating a kindness revolution here at Hartley. I hope to teach your students through classroom lessons and activities the importance and benefits of being kind and building positive relationships with everyone. To support this goal this month, Hartley will be participating in “Start with Hello” week, developed by the Sandy Hook Promise organization. This nationwide program promotes awareness of inclusion in school and the community. Please see the schedule below for the daily themes.—Mrs. Kosobucki

Monday: “Hey Day”: Challenge students to say “Hello” to students they don’t know using different verbal and nonverbal greetings.
Tuesday: No one sits or plays alone: Encourage students to invite others to sit or play with them.
Wednesday: Wear your favorite shirt: Teach kids ways to spark a conversion with someone they don’t know yet.
Thursday: Random acts of kindness: Inspire students to perform a random act of kindness for anyone at school/home.
Friday: Green Day: Wear green to school to show support for “Start with Hello” week.

First Day Done!!

Our “Save Fred” Activity!

Wwe had such a great first day of school! I really enjoyed getting to know your kids. Updates will usually be posted on Fridays, but I wanted to get you some information that will be useful.

About me:  This is my 6th year teaching at Hartley and my 7th year overall. I am a product of the St. Johns County school district attending Hartley, Gamble Rogers, and graduating from Menendez. I graduated with a degree in Elementary Education from UNC-Chapel Hill, and I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from FSU. I want you to know that I am available if you have any questions. Please feel free to email, call or write. Email is the best way to get a quick response from me. [email protected]

Homework: Your child will be expected to read a minimum of 20 minutes per night. The MOST IMPORTANT habit your child can develop for academic success is to set aside a consistent time for independent reading everyday. Math homework will come home as needed to reinforce the skills we are covering in class.

Snacks: Please send your child to school with a healthy snack, (fruit, pretzels, cheese/crackers, etc.) daily. Reusable water bottles with student names are recommended.

Birthdays: Birthdays are a special time to celebrate! We celebrate during recess. If you plan to bring in a special treat to share with the class, please let me know in advance.

Volunteers: I love volunteers! I will begin calling for volunteers in about two weeks. This gives me time to get to know the kids and determine needs.

School Visitation: This is just a reminder that anyone (parent, guardian, friend, neighbor, aunt, uncle) must have school access to attend an event at Hartley, have lunch with a student and/or attend an awards assembly. If you have not already done so, please complete the School Access Form. The process for approval may take up to 4 weeks, so please fill out the application ASAP.

*Thank you for bringing in the required paperwork! If you haven’t gotten a chance to send the paperwork, please do so by Friday.

*Be sure to check the links on the side for other important information.  Have a great day!

Mr. Samuels
