The beginning . . . 2014 . . .(The meeting of the Minds)
Dear Students and Parents,
Greetings! Welcome to fourth grade. This year will be filled with many exciting learning experiences which will excite, challenge, and invite you to discover your strengths as an independent learner. Students will begin this year by participating in a variety of activities that will help them to understand their strengths and formulate strategies which will help them to excel in all their studies. Students will discover the best methods for learning new concepts based on their personal learning styles. Do you learn best by SEEING new materials? Do you learn best by HEARING new materials? Do you learn best by USING YOUR HANDS TO PERFORM AN ACTIVITY when given new materials?
Activities presented will be child-centered, reflect the Common Core curriculum standards, and a variety of areas including: Science &Technology, current events, and the power of oral and written communication. We will be investigating and using Bloom’s Taxonomy of Learning to increase our critical thinking abilities. I believe that students can reach their highest potential as learners when they understand the learning process and recognize their strengths.
Fourth grade is an important year as we transition to the Common Core Standards. This year students will tested in Reading, Math using the new Florida achievement tests. We will be consistently applying test taking skills to all subject areas throughout the year. We will also be developing our abilities to defend our thinking by using examples from a variety of texts during class discussions and writing activities. Another focus will be time management skills & organizational strategies. It is important that your child takes responsibility for their learning & applies strategies that will help them be successful in all subject areas.
I consider it a privilege to work with each and every one of you this year. Please feel free to drop me a note or email me if you have any questions, concerns, or ideas you would like to share. Thank you in advance for your support and cooperation in your child’s education.

This year’s list of suggested supplies for Fourth Grade . . . This list is provided to help you with your back to school shopping. I will have a wish list on the board during orientation if you would like to donate other items for the class. Our classroom space will be located in the new building & does not offer a large amount of storage space . . . so please encourage your child not to bring in “extra” items.
