Welcome Back Students and Parents,
Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year here at Allen D. Nease High School. Please allow me to introduce myself: I’m Christi O’Quinn, your child’s Intensive Reading teacher. I am very excited to make this the best year ever!
The purpose of this course is to provide instruction that enables students to accelerate the development of reading and writing skills and to strengthen those skills so they are able to successfully read and write grade level text independently. We will be focusing on reading comprehension, reading fluency, writing, vocabulary study, and standards through the use of a variety of literary and informational texts encompassing a broad range of text structures genres, and levels of complexity.
I would like to encourage parent/teacher contact whenever you have a question or concern. The quickest way to reach me is via email during school hours. If you would like to request a parent/teacher conference, please contact Guidance and they will be happy to set it up for us. I will be sending whole-class emails periodically with updates and information regarding Intensive Reading. I will also be sending emails to individuals with questions, comments, and/or concerns regarding your child.
Please refer to the page links to the right for electronic copies of the course syllabus and all class notes. These will be updated as we cover the information in class. Also, there is a link to our Intensive Reading computer program, Reading Plus. Although your child will be working in Reading Plus in the classroom several times per week, I encourage him/her to also practice this at home.
Thank you very much for your support in making this a memorable and productive year and I look very forward to getting to know you.
