We are very excited to be teaching your children and learning all about them this year. To learn a little more about us please see below!
Mrs. Brun – I grew up in Michigan in a big family (4 brothers and 4 sisters!). I moved to Florida out of high school, and graduated from the University of Florida in 2003. (EduGator!) This is my 15th year teaching, and 7th year at LPA. I am married and have 2 daughters who attend LPA. My favorite superhero is Flash because I would love to have his ability to move through time, phase through matter, and read/acquire knowledge at a hyper-accelerated rate!
Mrs. Cash – My family and I recently moved from Miami-Dade County due to my husband’s job transfer to the St. Augustine area. Since my dad was in the military, I have grown up in many places (yes I am a military brat!). As I got older, my father decided to retire in Homestead, FL and I was able to graduate from Miami Killian High School (go COUGARS!). After graduating from Miami-Dade Community College, I realized I wanted to pursue teaching. I attended Nova Southeastern University where I received my Bachelors in Elementary Education. While teaching in a Title I school, I became aware I needed to continue my education in order to best assist my students and went on to receive my Masters at the University of Miami (go CANES!) in ESE and Reading. Even though this is my 3rd year at LPA, I have been teaching for 16 years. I have a life-long passion for learning and very excited about teaching 6th grade Language Arts. The super hero I most admire is Captain America because he stands for all that America should be; noble, strong, hard-working, just, and honest.
Mrs. Johnson – I moved to St. Johns four years ago from Chattanooga, TN. I grew up in Tennessee and have a degree in Biology from TN Tech. I obtained my teaching certification from the University of TN and my masters in Instructional Leadership from TN Tech. I taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade science at a K-8 school in Chattanooga. I’m going into my fourth year at LPA and am excited to be part of the Wolf family. My favorite superhero would have to be Batman. With no supernatural powers, he proves that anyone with a desire to make the world a better place and determination can be a superhero!
Ms. Latshaw – I am from Pittsburgh, PA (Go Steelers!!) and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh (Go Panthers!). I proudly served in the U.S. Army and worked as a Special Agent for the U.S. Army CID and was fortunate enough to be stationed in Hawaii. I lived there for nine years and then moved to Florida in 2006. I have been teaching World History at LPA since we opened and this year I am also teaching U.S. History. I most admire Wonder Woman because she is known for her strength and speed, an affinity for animals and is a founding member of the Justice League.
Mrs. Myers – I was born and raised in northern New Jersey and spent my childhood playing sports, which taught me how to work hard and persevere. My passion for teaching came at an early age as I always enjoyed athletics and working with others to achieve shared success. Being a teacher is a lot like playing on a sports team, my students and I only win when we work together. For over a decade, I have had the pleasure of teaching grades 3rd, 4th, 5th, and currently ELA for grades 6th and 7th. I earned my bachelor’s degree from West Virginia University (Go Mountaineers!) where I majored in Journalism and minored in Creative Writing. I went back to school for teaching after realizing my passion for learning and motivating others. My favorite hobbies include reading, writing, learning history and spending time with my family. My favorite superhero is Wonder Woman because she always hopes to unlock the potential of humanity.
Mrs. Small – This is my tenth year at Liberty Pines Academy! I have taught both 4th grade and 5th grade here at LPA. I am so excited to move to 6th grade as a math teacher! I grew up in New Jersey and have lived in New York and Maryland before finally settling in Florida. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Education from Trenton State College (which is now the College of New Jersey). I am passionate about my teaching and my students. I am a firm believer that students work best when they have clear goals, established rules, and strong relationships in the classroom. I am married and have 4 sons. In my time away from school, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, and gardening. My favorite superhero is Brainiac 5. He is the superhero that has the strongest math skills, because he uses them daily!
