Military Supplies and Letters
For the seventh year in a row, LPA will continue our military supply collection and letter writing campaign for soldiers deployed overseas.  Our project was so successful in past years that we have decided to keep our momentum moving into the 2017-2018 school year.  Below, please see the list of “Military Supply Collection dates” for the 2017-2018 school year.  Your child’s grade level will be participating only in the given months.  The Jacksonville USO has graciously partnered with us to ship all of our supplies and letters overseas to our deserving soldiers.

In the month of September and October, third, fourth and fifth grade students will be collecting supplies and writing letters.  Letters outlining this project go home on September 26th, including the supply list – also attached below.  Please use the carepackage supply list below and send in your donated supplies by Wednesday, October 11th. Your child will be writing their letters in class during a writing lesson.

iReady
Our school will be implementing a program called iReady Diagnotic, an innovative adaptive assessment program for Reading and Math.  iReady will help teachers assess the needs of each and every fourth grader while monitoring each student’s progress throughout the year.  Please see the iReady Parent Letter below for more information about this exciting program.

Novel Studies
During the year, we will be completing four different novel studies (one per quarter). We encourage all students to have their own copies of each of the novels. This inspires note taking and text marking, which are huge parts of our Florida Standards.

The names of the novels are:
Quarter 1 – The BFG by Roald Dahl
Quarter 2 – Fish in a Tree by Linda Mullaly Hunt (need in class by 10/16)
Quarter 3 – Number the Stars by Lois Lowry
Quarter 4 – City of Ember
by Jeanne DuPrau

Transportation Change Form
Please see the new transportation change form below that will be used at LPA.  Please plan to fill out the form and return to your child’s homeroom teacher prior to any transportation changes for your child.  We will not be accepting transportation changes in any other forms (postits, index cards, e-mails, etc.).  Thank you for your help in ensuring our kids stay safe during dismissal.

Dress Code
Please be sure to review our school’s dress code policy (page 6 and 7 – http://www-lpa.stjohns.k12.fl.us/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/2015-2016-Student-Plannerrevised.pdf) to ensure your child meets LPA’s dress code expectations.
Please let your child’s teacher know if you have any questions.

Transportation Notes
Please send any change of transportation notes to school with your child.  You may also fax a note to our front office at (904) 547-7905.  Please remember that phone calls and e-mails are not sufficient for any change of transportation communication.

Check-Out Times
Students may not be checked out any later than 2pm on a regular school day and at 1pm on Wednesdays. Please note that if you are volunteering in a classroom, and your visit passes these check out times, your child may not be checked out.  Thank you so much for assisting us in a smooth dismissal each day.

Birthday Celebrations
Please communicate with your child’s teacher if you would like to bring in a treat for your child’s birthday.  Your child’s teacher can help you to schedule the best time to drop off their special treat.  Food can not be brought into LPA without previous permission from the classroom teacher.  At LPA, we do not pass out birthday treats in the cafeteria.  Thanks for keep our students safe!  🙂

Cafeteria Visitors
We would love to
welcome you to the cafeteria to each lunch with your child.  Before arrival, please ensure you are an approved visitor and you have filled out a sibling form if you plan to bring a sibling to lunch.  Please plan to meet us at the cafeteria.  We will say our “hellos!” and “goodbyes!” there.
