Home Access Center Portal

The Home Access Center will replace Parent Assistant and provides parents with a summary page of attendance, class work, grades and test scores. Hickory Creek parents who had access to Parent Assistant in the past will be able to use the same Login and Password to access the HAC portal. Parents who do not have access to a HAC account must first complete the email verification form attached to the Hawks Nest newsletter and show a positive form of identification to HCE Registrar, Sherry Swartzwelder. Take care of this today and begin to monitor your child’s progress using the Home Access Center portal.

My name is Mrs. Itner and I am looking forward to another wonderful and memorable year at Hickory Creek Elementary School. Our room is located in the Spirit House ~ Room #920 (second door on the left). This year I will once again be teaming with Mrs. Teaman.  She will be teaching Language Arts and Social Studies and I will be teaching Mathematics and Science.  Her room is also located in the Spirit House ~ Room #910 (first door on the left).

Florida’s Common Core Standards for Mathematics have been implemented a few years ago and we will continue to do so with the Go Math series.   In the area of Language Arts, some of our learning goals will include: using the strategy of sequencing of events; fact and opinion; inferring; story structure/noting details; and topic/main idea. As always, I am excited about learning new thinking strategies and helping you all to become great problem solvers. Social Studies and Science will not only be taught throughout the year as a stand alone but also integrated into our Language Arts program.

Fourth grade is the year for higher level learning. There will be some growing pains as to be expected but in the end you will succeed and will be proud of your accomplishments. Being independent learners, responsible, and taking ownership of your studies, will have you well on your way to the path of success and I am here to help you achieve your success. Being prepared and well organized is the key to all possibilities. It’s nice to have that key so remind yourself to hold it within your reach throughout the year as it will open the doors to your dreams. The greatest gift you can give yourself is the gift of time and being prepared. Becoming great positive role models for others here at Hickory Creek is a goal that I know you all can reach and make us all proud.

FYI: The following is our Resource Schedule for the 2018-2019 school year.

Day 1:  Phys. Ed.

Day 2:  Media

Day 3:  Technology

Day 4:  Phys. Ed.

Day 5:  Music

Day 6: Art

Teaching Philosophy: I believe that students are individuals and if given the opportunity they will learn and grow at their own pace. My hope is to instill the love of learning and facilitate them on their road to success.

Parents/Guardians: I have been teaching for 34 (+) years. I graduated from Westfield State University in MA and have my BSE degree in Elementary Education 1 – 6, Early Childhood Education K – 3, and an ESOL certification (English Speaking other Languages K – 12).

My website will be most beneficial for you to use in order to find information regarding major class activities, upcoming events, expectations, quizzes/tests, and links to helpful math websites. Please feel free to drop me a note or email ( if you have any questions and/or concerns. Communication is very important. We strongly encourage our students in 4th grade to take ownership of their academics and to be independent learners. Therefore, students will be responsible for writing homework assignments in their planner every day, as well as, notes concerning school activities or any special programs and/or events. You will not see me writing their assignments down for them. Please check it daily to be sure any homework that may have been assigned is completed.

My Teaching Philosophy: I believe that students are individuals and if given the opportunity they will learn and grow at their own pace. All children are gifted! Some just open their gift sooner! My hope is to instill the love of learning and facilitate them on their road to success.

FYI: Providing that students have a good foundation of their basic math facts, math homework should not take more than 20 minutes (tops) to complete. I rarely assign any homework on Friday. Family time is very important too!

I thank you in advance for your support and for giving me the privilege to be a part of your child’s educational life here at Hickory Creek Elementary School.
