October 18, 2017 Our chicks are overachievers. 🙂 They were supposed to hatch around Wednesday, but three of them decided to come over the weekend.
On Tuesday, three more babies hatched. We had a chance to hold and play with the three older chicks.
During our math lesson, another chick hatched. And finally, our 8th chick hatched during lunch. We are having a great time hanging with our peeps.
September 24, 2017 We have some “egg-citing” things beginning this week! First, an embryologist from 4H is coming to speak with us on Monday to teach us about what to expect when we receive our chicken eggs to hatch in our classroom. This is a first time experience for me, so I’m thrilled to get this opportunity to share with your children.
Secondly, we will be starting our Literature Circles this week. Students had the opportunity to give their thoughts on a list of 5 books and were then placed in groups depending on their interest. There are 3 different groups that will be reading 3 different books based on interest. Students will be expected to read 2 chapters a night (about 15 pages) to be prepared to discuss with their groups. We will be working on our third grade reading literature standards through these books.
Thirdly, BYOD begins this week! If your child is bringing a device to and from school each day, please make sure that it is charged. There are no spare plugs to charge devices each day. Your child will bring his/her device to school and take it home each day. Check your email for a list of apps to download onto your child’s device to make it easy to use in class.
Finally, the Fall Conference Sign Up Form is up! I have put a link at the bottom of this post. Please sign up for a date/time that works for you. If you need a different time, please either email me or note it on the last question. I will get back to you by the end of the day to set up a time. Thank you for being patient- I wanted to make sure I had as much information as possible to give you during the conference.
September 17, 2017 Welcome back to school, Gumshoes! We were so fortunate to have little damage at JCE. We lost a pine tree on the playground, but the work crews took it away quickly. When I worked in our classroom on Friday it looked just the way that it did when we left on Thursday a week and 3 days ago! This week we’ll be finishing our playgrounds Monday – Wednesday. I have some great pictures- look for them on ClassDojo! Then we’ll begin some projects with our class read-aloud, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Remember that we have the Scholastic Book Fair this week through Friday.
Hooray for being back in school! 🙂
August 19, 2017 It’s been a great 7 days in Third Grade! We are working on building a classroom community of learners who support one another in positive ways.
Check our calendar- I’ve added our resource schedule for each day as well as upcoming assessments.
It’s great to be a Gumshoe!
Aug 10, 2017 Welcome to Third Grade! I am so excited to welcome you to a fantastic year of learning and fun. My name is Mrs. Wendy Gilbert. This is my 20th year of teaching. I have had the opportunity to teach K-3rd grade in 2 different Florida counties. I started in Duval County for 16 years where I was awarded Teacher of the Year at two different schools. This is my 4th year at Julington Creek where I was honored to be the 2016-17 Teacher of the Year. It is such a gift to have touched the lives of so many wonderful families throughout the years, and I look forward to being a part of your child’s life this year and beyond!
My goal this year is for my students to be personally responsible for their schoolwork and behavior, believe in the power of “yet” (I can’t do this YET, but I will be able to when I keep trying), and to work to find the positive in others. We are a family in our class. I want each and every one of your children to feel safe and secure in our classroom. I treat them as if they are my own kids. I have three children of my own: Sarah is a senior at Mandarin High School, Sam is a freshman at Mandarin High, and Molly is in 7th grade at Mandarin Middle. I also have a fabulous husband, Todd. Our toy Australian shepherd Bindi rounds out our family.
I will communicate with you through ClassDojo (anytime), weekly e-mail newsletters, and our class website. Please keep in touch throughout this year and let me know if there is anything I can do to make your child’s learning experience even better!
I’m looking forward to an incredible year. I can’t wait to meet each of you at orientation on August 9th.
